Release Date: December 31, 2011

Vocaloid: Miku (Append Solid, Sweet), Luka, Rin, & Len

From the dark wood and the hill forth comes this information… but it originated in VocaDB!

Overview:

Ready for some history? How about the Vocaloid clan teaching you the history? These sets of songs come from Dante Alighieri’s most famous writing, The Divine Comedy. Xenon-P has an image to keep up with his epical style of producing, and this is not one you can just miss if you like his work. I personally like his work. Maybe because he designs his songs around things I enjoy reading- also that his music style is progressive metal and that is what I love most! Though there is a song that is literally 30 minutes long, I’m going all in!

Note: this album is best heard in crossfade format!

Emotion Rating: Look under the song titles in the “Detailed Review” to see Mr. Opinion Face’s emotion on the song. Plus, if there is a “Sawbat Approved” Icon, the song is top notch as mine and Sawbat’s favorite of the album- we have the same tastes.  It’s a wonder our ears don’t erupt brain fluid listening to this very epical, fast-pace music. The songs lists do not line up to the epic poem, but oh well! I could get the information wrong on some accounts, so if you’re reading this Xenon… Don’t hate me! (ó﹏ò。)

Detail Review:

1) Introduction –A Seed of Life-

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

Heartbeat, heartbeat! This is just an introduction with orchestral beginnings with horns and drums and such, and it crosses over to the next song beautifully!

2) HIMAWARI

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

 –

Miku is Append Solid in this song, and I have to say- or scream- that this is a little, yet powerful decision. The music is no less fast and Miku takes to the masterful vocals that are stringy and fluent within the vibrations of the music. Not really sure what “HIMAWARI” means, but this song sounds like a beautiful beginning to the entire album. Did I mention that this song is 7 minutes long?

The beginning of Dante’s Inferno is that Dante is on a mission to rescue his lover, Elizabeth, whom was stolen by Lucifer, the most famous Devil of Christian Literature! Dante meets Virgil on his way down to the Gates of Hell as a poet/guide.

3) Buy Them All

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

Now we are getting short on song time here! As a 3 minute song, it is a great starting point to the circles of Hell that Dante wrote about. We talk about Greed, the fourth circle of hell, where souls are held in tug and war. Rin takes the stage for the quicker vocals than the last song. This is a suiting atmosphere for the fire Dante has when he enters the Circle of Greed.

4) Tatoo

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

I dunno if that is a misprint of tattoo or not, but now, Luka takes over as Dante enters the Circle of Violence… I think, you must know that these are Japanese lyrics and I can’t understand a golden fountain of what they are saying! It has a very strong beat down that leads to a guitar ripping solo. Power and Speed, I like!

5) Eat Them All On The Table

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

HOLY FLESH CONSUMPTION! This song is probably the most intense and disturbing- I mean come on, people were being eaten by a massive slush lake in the Circle of Gluttony- it wasn’t tasty either! Luka is a freaking powerhouse when it comes to this song, her verses are cold and distant and her pre-chorus is guttural. The chorus fits fairly well within the intensity given that it is catchy and appropriate for the atmosphere!

These lyrics are in English so I can just barely understand her!

“Eat them to live tomorrow, Cutting chain of life is a sorrow, they died to give you life, cut this meat rather than your wrist with your knives!” is probably my favorite part!

The lyrics are mainly about animals and how they gave their lives for ours! We have to eat them all on the table! Unfortunately, here in America, that would be a dilemma given that many people are overweight! Hey, I got some fat on me too, and I love meat – chicken/steak/fish/bacon/turkey – I just exercise with High Intensity Interval Training coupled with Intermittent Fasting to keep my figure. Not perfect, but I enjoy eating what I want without much consequence.

6) Hand to Hand

Emotion: (•‿•) – Good!

Softest song in the album, and a perfect sound for Miku’s Append Sweet! She sounds just so sweet! This one is more emotionally charged in happiness. It wouldn’t be a XenonP song without a guitar solo, and while it is slower to fit into the valley’s of the song, it is less memorable than others.

7) Incubus

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

Rin and Len sing in the wake of Dante’s most daunting challenge entering into the Circle of Lust- as he lost his muse because he had an affair basically! It was a deal with the devil that Elizabeth made.

This is the conjuncture of Speed Metal and Power Metal! Rin and Len keep singing rapidly through without a single breath, which makes it less believable, but nothing less than extremely cool and awesome to listen to.

The breakdown leads to a slower than usual solo! This is where the power is!

8) Immortal Souls

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

The intro sounds much like a certain Dragonforce song from their album “Inhuman Rampage”- but then again, XenonP is the Dragonforce of the Vocaloid scene! I love this guy and his music!

Len alone is something new, and a nice fit.

The guitar rhythm is catchy and a headbang fuel. And the best part is there is a piano solo just before the intense breakdown of orchestral instruments- leading to a XenonP style guitar solo that sounds like the guitar should erupt in flames due to the friction… I think I said that in the last album review too!

9) Rain of Tears

Sawbat Approved

Certainly different than the rest, and a needed Pop sound! Miku and Luka do a harmonious job- get it? Rain of Tears is probably my favorite of the album despite the slower speed of it, but the hymn of the chorus is deeply moving.

Starts off with, I think an Acid Guitar sound- don’t quote me on anything! I’m not one you should pull quotes from. The rhythm guitar is still there to deliver a powerful experience. With little chimes in place and a gorgeous bridge, it has the makings of a perfect power lullaby- in which I have no idea what that is!

10) Survive

Emotion: (•‿•) – Good!

Right off the edge we get a guitar slide that’ll get you out of your seat from the epicness! Miku Append Solid is Solid!

I can already tell that some of you are getting distraught from reading the same thing over and over, but something is more different in this one that got me by surprise! There is a Human! Yes, there is, and not only that, he sounds perfect.

Wow, that one caught me off guard, and I thought I switched to a different song from Stratovarius or Sonata Arctica- you know those guys? Here’s my list of Power Metal Bands just for you guys!

  1. Amorphis – Progressive/Folk/Death/Doom Metal (Not technically power, but still epic!)
  2. Dragonforce – Power/Speed Metal
  3. Nightwish – Folk/Power Metal
  4. Sonata Arctica – Power/Speed Metal
  5. Stratovarius – Power/Speed Metal

11) Come La Divina Comedia

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It! But would love it more if I understood it!

Are we now talking to Satan??? There is a voice in this that I cannot understand! He sounds low, growly, and angry! This song is the classic story of the Xenon Maiden design like in every album!

I can say this, though… IT’S 29:40 MINUTES LONG!

At first, I guess Lucifer says something, then strikes up conversation with our Vocaloids. Music plays in the background, and soon you realize that the first song, Himawari is playing in alternate key! This is strange, but they seem to be redoing the entire album, then having a conversation, then the singing switched to Lucifer, I think, singing some parts of some songs. This happens for a bunch of minutes.

The creepiest part of it is at 10:53 where there was a deep growl just like in Eat Them All On The Table, and I could understand what he was saying! He sounds more human than in song 5, and that’s what makes it creepy! It sounds like he is pulsing his breathe while growling if that makes sense. Think of a phaser, for those of you who know anything about audio editing! The frequency vibrates is basically what I’m saying!

They all go through this interval for, mainly, the length of the whole album plus some. It is very tense in this space, but oh how I wish that I understood Japanese so I could understand this! It sounds so epical! If you get any one of the songs on this list, get this one just for the massive enjoyment of wondering what is actually happening- be like me and use your imagination!

At 20:30 it switches to an Egyptian tune from a keyboard and our Vocaloids begin to have a conversation that seems urgent! Sounds like the tune from The Castaway by Amorphis, almost exactly! Or at least reminds me a lot about it!

At 21:43 it takes a complete switch to a much faster shredding guitar!

Wait, is that birds at the end, they sound mechanical?

It is extremely enjoyable, just wish I understood it!

12) Birthday

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

To put it briefly… Fitting End! This is Comedy- a Happy End!

Remember when I said that Hand to Hand was the softest song in the album… I lied! This is the softest song in the world! Not really, but you get the picture!

It’s absolutely adorable and comforting! Miku is so soft in this, and it is short! Perfect end for a Perfect album!

Quickie Review:

9 out of 10

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

Again, if anyone knows exactly what they say in Come La Divina Comedia, let me know by hitting my email or comment with a link- try not to comment because it’s a freakishly long song!
